 Gatsby Party:

Hi Friends, we recently attended a party for a family friend which was organized as Gatsby Party.

The term Gatsby is from the novel the great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald. It actually refers to the parties that were being hosted in the 1920s - the roaring 20s - where people partied all the time and a lot because they were happy that world war I was over. So the mindset of the decade was to live wildly, but it’s called the roaring 20s because it was really extravagant compared to the 1910s, the decade of the great war/ww1, and the 1930s, the decade of the great depression. Please do watch and enjoy!

Why the rich countries have failed India and the rest of the world during this Pandemic:

Hi Friends, welcome to our blog. Well, I happened to read an article where Dr.Fauci the chief Medical adviser to the US President on Communicable diseases had lamented the fact that the rich nations have focused on only themselves during this pandemic and not at the developing nations in general. This might be a riveting statement but that is the hallmark of the rich. Looking back, I remember staying at my Uncle's place on vacation or making casual visits. We were part of a lower Middle class. He had four sisters and he himself had 3 kids. He lived only in a single bedroom apartment that comprised a kitchen, a hall, a bedroom and one single bath room and toilet. However, we never felt it was too small. We were able to manage and the visits were never short of fun. In another instance, I remember driving a bike through a low income locality back home in India. I do remember a group of women standing on the road side and cautioning vehicle drivers to drive slowly as engine oil had spilled on the road and bikes were skidding. It was timely caution and very helpful. Contrast this to driving through a rich locality. They may call the police or some voluntary organization and expect them to helpful. What I generally observe is when we are poor, our hearts are large and when we become rich, the heart becomes smaller and we become more selfish and think only about ourselves, how to gain more wealth and retain wealth!  That explains the behavior of rich nations during this pandemic!

Why a defeat would have helped Mamata more!

Westbengal sprung a surprise during the recently concluded Assembly polls by giving a thumbs up verdict to Mamata Banerjee by providing her a 3rd stint at the Chief Minister's chair. However, the cruel irony is that she lost the polls to Suvendu Adhikari, an ex-Trinamool man. She fell for his bait when he challenged her to contest from Nandigram. She agreed and although singularly helped Trinamool come back to power in west Bengal, lost to Suvendu. Now the Trinamool has been unable to celebrate the victory as it's chief herself had lost the election. So much for Prashant Kishore's acumen. Although he seemed to have charted Trinamool's victory this time, he couldn't find a way against Suvendu Adhikari. With Mamata's party winning a third term, a call would come to project her as the challenger to Modi in 2024. That we feel, could be her undoing. She won this election because the minority community votes appear to have been solidly behind her. If she were to offer any challenge outside Bengal, she would have project herself as secular, which may not be again liked by her core consistuency. If she had been defeated, she could have served as a good opposition. One thing is certain, Mamata is not a smart person as is revealed by her going and contesting in Nandigram, the stronghold of Suvendu Adhikari. If she were to enjoy a peaceful reign in Calcutta, she should curtail her national ambitions. Her party, after all, is a regional one. Any regional party attempting to enter National politics would be cut to size. It happened to Chandrababu Naidu recently. He is nowhere to be seen on the Andhra Pradesh landscape, despite him being Chief Minister a few times. The same fate awaits Mamata if she were to venture into national politics. Any case, all the best for winning the Assembly elections a third time in a row!
