Some parts of Houston were severely impacted by flood at that time. There was a general call from all voluntary organizations for everyone to lend their helping hand. As part of it, the company I worked for also at that time decided to get involved. We, as employees were allowed to do volunteer work for a reputed international voluntary organization. Accordingly, I gave my name. After that, I was asked to register at the organization's portal. Once I registered, I was again asked for my background details and if that were not enough, was asked to undergo a training lasting over two hours to more about the organization, etc, etc. I patiently went through all this after which I was allotted a date and time to volunteer. My Company was providing employees half a day leave also. I completed the training and then had to get approval from my manager via email. After he gave his approval, I had to visit an internal portal and upload manager's approval and request half day leave for service. While entering the request, I noticed lot of warnings that included suspension/termination if this facility was misused. Imagine my situation. I started wondering why the heck should I undergo all this? I could have just walked away from all this? Any case, having taken the plunge, moved forward, got all approvals and went for the service. Ultimately, what I realized was it is very difficult to do good and be good. It is very easy to be bad. TO do good, you need to have lot of patience and commitment. That's what I realized. If you take the farm laws, Prime minister Modi brought it with good attention. However, anti national forces prevailed and made him repeal the act. That's why people are reluctant to do any good.
